Who Was Zubaida Khatun?
Zubaida Khatun, born as Zubaida bint Ja’far ibn al-Mansur, belonged to the glorious Abbasid royal family. She was the beloved wife of Caliph Harun al-Rashid, one of the most famous rulers of the Abbasid Caliphate. But Zubaida Khatun was not remembered merely as a queen wrapped in luxury. She was known for her faith-inspiring heart, charitable works, and deep devotion to Allah. Her palace was a home of knowledge and piety, where the light of faith shone brighter than gold.
The Faith-Inspiring Tale of Nehr-e-Zubaida
The Pain of the Pilgrims
During one of her journeys, Queen Zubaida Khatun observed that pilgrims traveling to Makkah suffered terribly from thirst.
The desert roads were long, scorching, and lifeless. Moved by compassion, she decided to create a source of water that would bring relief to all those who traveled in the path of Allah.
The Dream That Became a River
She called the best engineers and ordered them to construct a canal — a waterway from the mountains to Makkah. The project was massive and nearly impossible. When her engineers said, “Your Majesty, this task will consume mountains of gold”. Queen Zubaida Khatun, with unwavering faith, replied: “Even if every stone cost gold, let it be spent — but the pilgrims must not go thirsty.” Her faith moved mountains — literally. After years of hard labor, the Nehr-e-Zubaida was completed. It brought fresh water across hundreds of miles to Makkah, serving millions of pilgrims for centuries. Even today, remnants of Nehr-e-Zubaida stand near Makkah — a living testimony to the faith-inspiring heart of Zubaida Khatun, the queen whose generosity flowed like her canal.
The Dream of Forgiveness: When Allah’s Mercy Spoke
After her death, a righteous man saw Zubaida Khatun in a dream and asked,“O Zubaida, what happened to you after death?”
She replied: “When I was presented before Allah Almighty, all my deeds were shown — my charity, my construction of Nehr-e-Zubaida, and my wealth spent for His sake. Then Allah said: You spoke the word, spent gold, and made others work. But tell Me, what hardship did you personally bear for My sake?’”
Zubaida Khatun continued: “I trembled, for I had lived as a queen. I never lifted a straw with my own hands. I feared I had no personal sacrifice.”
At that moment, Allah’s mercy overtook His judgment.
He said: “Yes, there is one act you did purely for My sake. One day, while eating, you dipped a morsel into curry and were about to eat when you heard the call to prayer — Allahu Akbar. You noticed your head was uncovered. Out of reverence for My name, you placed the morsel aside, covered your head, and then continued eating.
That small act of love and respect for Me — I have forgiven all your sins for it.” Subhan Allah!
A single moment of faith, a single act of modesty, became the cause of forgiveness and entry into paradise. This story of Zubaida Khatun remains one of the most faith-inspiring reminders of Allah’s infinite mercy.

اسلامی تاریخ میں بہت سی ایسی خواتین گزری ہیں جنہوں نے ایمان، خدمت اور بخشش کی ایسی مثالیں قائم کیں جو ہمیشہ یاد رکھی جائیں گی۔ انہی میں ایک نام ہے زبیدہ خاتون کا — ایک ایسی ملکہ جس کی نیکیوں کی خوشبو صدیوں بعد بھی محسوس کی جاتی ہے۔
زبیدہ خاتون کا نام سنتے ہی ذہن میں نہر زبیدہ، خدمتِ خلق، ایمان افروز کردار اور جنت کی بخشش کا خیال آتا ہے۔
زبیدہ خاتون کون تھیں؟
زبیدہ خاتون کا اصل نام زبیدہ بنت جعفر بن منصور تھا۔آپ کا تعلق عباسی خلافت کے مشہور و معروف خاندان سے تھا۔آپ خلیفہ ہارون الرشید کی زوجہ تھی— وہی ہارون الرشید جن کا دور “اسلامی سنہری دور” کہلاتا ہے۔
زبیدہ خاتون ایک نیک دل، عبادت گزار اور سخاوت کرنے والی ملکہ تھیں۔ان کے محل میں علم، ادب اور ایمان کی روشنی تھی۔وہ اللہ کے بندوں سے محبت کرتی تھیں، خاص طور پر حاجیوں اور مسافروں کی خدمت کو اپنا فرض سمجھتی تھیں۔
💧 نہرِ زبیدہ کا ایمان افروز واقعہ
حاجیوں کے لیے پانی کی تلاش
ایک دن زبیدہ خاتون نے دیکھا کہ مکہ مکرمہ جانے والے حاجی راستے میں سخت پیاس سے پریشان رہتے ہیں۔راستہ طویل، صحرائی اور بے آب و گیاہ تھا۔ملکہ زبیدہ خاتون کا دل پگھل گیا۔
انہوں نے کہا:
“اللہ کے مہمان پیاسے کیسے رہ سکتے ہیں؟ ہمیں ان کے لیے کچھ کرنا ہوگا۔”
نہر زبیدہ کی تعمیر کا فیصلہ
زبیدہ خاتون نے اپنی دولت اللہ کے راستے میں خرچ کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔انہوں نے حکم دیا کہ مکہ تک پانی لانے کے لیے نہر بنائی جائے۔یہ منصوبہ بہت بڑا اور مشکل تھا۔ پہاڑوں کو کاٹ کر، ریتلی زمین میں سرنگیں بنا کر پانی لانا کسی معجزے سے کم نہ تھا۔
جب ماہر انجینئرز نے کہا کہ:”اے زبیدہ خاتون! یہ کام ناممکن ہے، سونا بھی کم پڑ جائے گا۔”
تو ملکہ زبیدہ نے ایمان سے بھرپور جواب دیا:”چاہے ایک ایک چٹان پر سونا بہا دینا پڑے، مگر حاجیوں کو پانی ضرور ملنا چاہیے۔”یہ جملہ ان کی ایمان افروز نیت اور اللہ پر بھروسے کا مظہر ہے۔
آخرکار، نہر زبیدہ تیار ہو گئی۔یہ نہر کئی میل تک پھیلی ہوئی تھی اور اس سے لاکھوں حاجیوں نے صدیوں تک فائدہ اٹھایا۔نہر زبیدہ آج بھی مکہ مکرمہ کے قریب موجود ہے اور اپنی تعمیر کی گواہی دیتی ہے۔
یہ نہر صرف پانی نہیں تھی — یہ زبیدہ خاتون کے خلوص، ایمان اور بخشش کی امید کا نشان تھی۔
زبیدہ خاتون کا خواب اور بخشش کا واقعہ
زبیدہ خاتون جب دنیا سے رخصت ہو گئیں تو ایک نیک شخص نے انہیں خواب میں دیکھا۔اس نے پوچھا:”اے زبیدہ خاتون! تمہارے ساتھ مرنے کے بعد کیا معاملہ پیش آیا؟”
زبیدہ خاتون نے فرمایا:
“جب میں اللہ رب العزت کے حضور پیش ہوئی تو میرے سارے اعمال پیش کیے گئے۔اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا:‘تمہاری زبان سے لفظ نکلا، خزانے کا پیسہ لگا، مزدوروں کا پسینہ بہا — مگر بتاؤ تم نے میری خاطر کیا تکلیف اٹھائی؟’”
زبیدہ خاتون کہتی ہیں:
“میں بہت ڈر گئی، کیونکہ میں تو ملکہ تھی۔میں نے کبھی خود سے کوئی مشکل کام نہیں کیا۔میں خاموش رہی۔”پھر اللہ کی رحمت جوش میں آئی۔اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا:”یاد کرو، ایک دن تم کھانا کھا رہی تھیں۔
تم نے لقمہ سالن میں ڈبو کر منہ کی طرف لے جانا ہی تھا کہ اذان کی آواز آئی ‘اللہ اکبر’۔تم نے دیکھا کہ تمہارا سر ڈھکا نہیں۔تم نے میرے نام کی عظمت کی خاطر لقمہ رکھ دیا، پہلے دوپٹہ اوڑھا، پھر کھانا کھایا۔
یہ جو تم نے میرے نام کے احترام میں لقمہ کھانے میں تاخیر کی، ہم نے اسی ایک عمل پر تمہارے گناہ معاف کر دیے۔”اللہ اکبر! کیا ایمان افروز منظر ہے۔
زبیدہ خاتون کا وہ چھوٹا سا عمل ان کے لیے بخشش اور جنت کا ذریعہ بن گیا۔

زبیدہ خاتون کی زندگی ہمیں یہ سکھاتی ہے کہاللہ تعالیٰ کے ہاں کسی عمل کی قدر اس کے سائز سے نہیں بلکہ نیت سے ہوتی ہے۔ایک ملکہ جس نے نہر زبیدہ بنوا کر لاکھوں انسانوں کو زندگی دی،
اور ایک چھوٹے سے عمل پر اللہ کی بخشش حاصل کی — یہ ہے ایمان کی اصل روح۔
